A living site in memory of Ashok K Chandra to remember and honor him. A man with a golden heart and an extraordinary mind. A cherished father, husband, and friend. And a doting grandfather. He left us November 15, 2014 after a brave battle with cancer.

Remembrance: Amita Shenoi

was going through some pictures and found a few from my 50th b'day party in 2003. While I could not find any of Kishan or me posing with you and Ashok, I did find two that truly capture Ashok's spirit and love of life.

Through Ashok's journey and battles this year, we saw different aspects of his persona that you (Mala), have encapsulated so beautifully in your email announcement.
He taught us all so much in the way he handled himself. And you Mala, displayed the same courage and fortitude as a devoted wife, caregiver, friend and more. I, as a wife and mother have learned so much from how you carried yourself through this challenging time of your life and held it all together with so much grace, dignity and self sufficiency.

Kishan and I (and Neil on occasion) had the unique opportunity to interact with Ashok (and you) one on one much more this year, than we had all these years. Through his love of stimulating dialog and his love of good food, we enjoyed those wednesday and friday evenings with you very much. I had the privilege of preparing 'special' meals that Ashok specially requested, and that gave me immense pleasure and satisfaction to see how much he relished everything. He never missed a thing, even noticed little details of how I had trimmed off the stems of the pea pods or sliced the mushrooms and asparagus! It was even more touching, coming from someone with Ashok's brilliance and given that he was already dealing with so much. Yet he appreciated, enjoyed and savored a variety of foods, and his appreciation went beyond just saying 'Thank You'. Bless his soul!
