Talk: Prachi Parvin

I’m very honored to share with you my cherished remembrances of Ashok Uncle.  When I remember Ashok Uncle I always think of Ashok Uncle’s commitment and love for Mala Aunty.  Their relationship was very special and unique and something I feel so privileged to have seen. So patient, understanding, and accepting.

In particular a time comes to mind when they went to a concert with pictures cut out of the singer and pinned to his tie and her sari and purse. It may seem silly but a marriage (and though I’m relatively new to it, I have been observing them for a while) is a partnership, through all things difficult and silly, and this image of them together, as loving and playful partners  is imprinted in my heart, forever an example of an everlasting partnership.

It's a commitment that comes through in how Ashok Uncle shared in my meeting Yashar to our engagement and through our wedding. More than just a regular joy, he went beyond in conveying the excitement that I too had found what he had with Mala Aunty. Sharing the excitement and thrill that I too had found a partner as he has in Mala Aunty. The thoughtful blanket they gifted on our engagement is woven with threads of compassion, empathy, equal partnership, all he and Mala Aunty have shared with us and enfolded/draped us as we joined this special club. That is a warm memory I’ll wrap myself up when I remember Ashok Uncle.
